Extraordinary Village Meeting

This Meeting has been requested by the Sustainable Lastingham group as the Lastingham Energy Survey is now at a stage where the chosen Consultants, Ridge and Partners, are able to attend a meeting to provide a comprehensive brief to villagers about the survey process.

All villagers are urged to attend whether or not they have agreed to have their house surveyed as everyone's input is valued.

Hallowe'en Pumpkin Trail

Make a Pumpkin Lantern and put it outside your house.

Pumpkin trail guides will be available from the Village Hall.

Please let us know:

a] if you are doing a Pumpkin

b] if you want to buy a ticket for the event Adults £7.50, Children £2.50

There will be food and soft drink in the village hall after the trail.
Bring your own bottle if you want anything stronger!

Churchyard Memorials Lecture

Prof Harold Mytum is professor of archaeology at the University of Liverpool with research interests that include above and below ground historic mortuary evidence. Monuments can tell us much more about the culture and beliefs of those who commissioned and made them. It's a fascinating subject and you will learn a lot about our own gravestones.

Please do come along to the Village Hall 7pm tomorrow, Saturday. We have a raffle and there will be refreshments after the Lecture - Beyond Names & Dates, why churchyard memorials are so important. Funds raised will go to the upkeep of our graveyard.

Coronation Celebrations

Residents & friends are invited to attend a Street Party.

The celebrations will centre around the Spaunton & Lastingham Village Hall.

Setting-up will begin at 10am with the party beginning at noon. Please bring food to share and there will be two BBQ grills available (one for meat and one for alternatives) for people to cook their own food. Bring your own drinks.

At 2pm there will be Village Photos to mark this very special occasion in the life of the nation and of the village.

York Theatre Royal Choir Concert

The choir of the Theatre Royal, York are giving a concert entitled Screen Songs under the direction of Maddy Hudson.

The concert takes place in St. Mary’s Church and tickets cost £10, including refreshments, and proceeds will go towards St. Mary’s Lastingham and St. Chad’s Hutton-le-Hole.

The annual election of Parish Meeting officials will take place at the AGM and the current postholders are:

Any Nominations for (to replace) any of the above positions need to be presented to Brian Miller, as Clerk, by Tuesday 11th April together with the names of the Proposer and Seconder.

Organ Recital & Afternoon Tea

The Bishop of Whitby, Paul Ferguson, also happens to be a very fine organist. He is giving a recital in St. Mary’s Lastingham in aid of the Church.

The event has been organised by the Friends of Lastingham Church and begins with a delicious afternoon tea, served in the village hall just across the road from the church.

Replete with scones and cake, we then cross the road to the church for Bishop Paul’s recital which begins at 5pm.

Tickets cost £12 and can be obtained by contacting ticketsforfriends@gmail.com

Villagers will be opening there gardens to visitors.

There will also be scarecrows strategically placed around the village for those who wish to ‘do the trail’.

Tea, coffee & cake will be available at the Village Hall, and you can complete your afternoon with refreshment and music at the Blacksmith’s Arms with singer, Laura Cairns.
